PROTON CARS AUSTRALIA CORPORATE PROFILE
PROTON Bhd was incorporated on 7th May 1983 with the aim of building a Malaysian national car. Two years later, on 9th July 1985 the Proton Saga (later known in the UK as the MPI) was officially launched. It was Malaysia's first domestically produced car and is still sold in Malaysia and other countries today.
The company has come a long way since 1983; PROTON was publicly listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange in 1992, and today, PROTON is Malaysia’s leading automotive manufacturer with over 25 years of innovation and exports to over 25 countries worldwide, has sold more than 3 million units globally and now a member of DRB HICOM.
In 1996 - PROTON Cars Australia Pty Limited was incorporated as a wholly owned subsidiary and has gone on to launch a utility vehicle and over 15 passenger variants into the Australian market.

SUPRIMA S, THE LAUNCH OF A NEW CAR INTO THE AUSTRALIAN MARKET
In early 2014 PROTON Cars Australia launched their latest passenger car, the Suprima S across Australia. The launch of the Suprima S went over various stages: from an initial launch function in Sydney, to a media drive event, then followed up by a simultaneous product launch across Australia. It was on the simultaneous national product launch where PROTON engaged BANNERSHOP to provide an exhibition solution.
The objectives of this launch were to enable each dealer to book test-drives for interested customers and to promote the PROTON brand. PROTON Cars Australia needed a solution that provided all the tools necessary for dealers to use on site, to showcase the new Suprima S at individual shopping centres and venues across Australia.
Christine Van Arsdale, PROTON Cars Australia’s Marketing & Events Co-ordinator said: ‘Each of our Dealers utilised a local venue for their events, this meant that we needed enough exhibition solutions to support the launch across 7 Westfield Shopping Centres, and a total over 25 shopping centres nationally’.
In a couple of the Queensland events, a guest representing Safe Driver Training made an appearance to demonstrate to the audience a special pair of goggles which made you see as though you have had a few drinks. This simulated the effects of (as well as illustrating the dangers of) drink-driving.
Two of their Melbourne dealers had Miss Universe Australia, Olivia Wells appearing at their events. Proton Cars Australia has supported Safe Driver Training for many years, and has sponsored Miss Universe Australia for the past 5 years.

CHALLENGES
The biggest challenges facing PROTON Cars Australia was in the sheer size and scale of the event. The event had a single starting date (lasting a week) and was conducted across Australia, across three time zones, with each state having different public holiday dates.
Co-ordination is crucial with an event like this and choosing a supplier that can meet the deadlines while providing a quality solution is very important.
To assist PROTON Cars Australia with selecting the ideal solution, BANNERSHOP created a number of 3-D renderings, illustrating how each solution will look when finished and installed.
‘Having the 3D renderings was great. It made it easy to sell the idea to the internal stakeholders – they all got excited when they saw what BANNERSHOP had created for us’ said Christine.
PROTON needed a solution that provided all the tools necessary for dealers to use on site, to showcase the Suprima S. The solution that PROTON Cars Australia chose was a POP the Wall with Counter, plus two Pull-Up Banners and brochure stand.
‘We chose fabric Pull-Up Banners to go with each POP the wall and they looked amazing’, said Christine.
As a corporation, PROTON Cars Australia also needed to maintain their c¬orporate identity on everything produced with a PROTON logo on it. BANNERSHOP tested and matched their corporate colours to their specifications as part of their service.
“The results were exactly what I expected, the colours were checked by BANNERSHOP and were printed spot on” said Christine.
The BANNERSHOP Account Manager also made sure that the solutions were assembled and checked prior to being sent out, guaranteeing that each solution will fit perfectly when installed.
On top of this when some last minute changes were required to meet the specifications of some regional shopping centres, BANNERSHOP made sure that these changes were made with no impact on the launch schedule of the Suprima S.

BANNERSHOP QUALITY
Given the portability of each exhibition solution, each dealer was able to transport them in the back of their cars, and deploy them wherever needed.
‘The solution we chose was completely turn-key and easy to install and pack, BANNERSHOP provided everything we needed in a package, not something just cobbled together’, said Christine.
‘Some dealers are still using the solutions today, long after the event – they can be picked up and quickly reassembled to be used at more events, giving our dealers tremendous value. Our dealers are happy, and we are happy’
